There is life beyond the bar
scene! The OASIS organizes a variety of opportunities to meet and socialize.
Theater evenings, concerts, and boat rides are just of the fun activities
we've undertaken in the past.
"A MOVEABLE FEAST" - A NEW SERIES OF SOCIAL EVENTS
The Coffee House Socials have grown up! This year the OASIS will host a variety of social events of various types, based largely on input from you!
The name "A Moveable Feast" refers to religious holidays, such as Easter, which fall on different holidays from year to year. In our case, it refers to the idea that we will gather in different venues around the area rather than a fixed location and theme as in the past. As with the coffeehouse, although we may hold some events in church buildings these are strictly social occasions and anyone -- of any religion or none -- is welcome to participate.

On Friday, November 4th at 8 p.m., the Nutley
Little Theatre began its run of Diana Son's celebrated play Stop
Kiss. Once again the theatre is generously donating half of the proceeds
from the show's opening night to The Oasis.
“Manhattan growls like an underfed pit
bull in Stop Kiss, a sweet, sad and enchantingly sincere play,”
said the New York Times's Ben Brantley.
The playwright, Diana Son, has written and
edited for The West Wing and Law and Order. Stop
Kiss won her the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)
Media Award for Outstanding New York production.
The Girl That
I Marry: An Evening of Cabaret with Elaine St. George
Cabaret legend Elaine St. George partnered
with the OASIS for three performances of Elaine's cabaret show The
Girl That I Marry at various churches around the diocese this spring.
Time Out New York says "Barbara
Cook and Elaine St. George must have been separated at birth." Of
The Girl That I Marry, Warren Hoffman of talkinbroadway.com says
"Addressing the issue of gay marriage head on, St. George skillfully
weaves satire and humor with traditional theater songs and crafts a show
that sheds new light on weddings, commitment, and true love in the context
of same-sex relationships."
The OASIS thanks Elaine St. George and her
musicians, as well as Christ Church: Hackensack, All Saint's Church: Hoboken,
and the Church of the Redeemer: Morristown for making this event possible.
The Laramie Project
at Nutley Little Theatre
On Sunday, April 25th, 2004,the OASIS sponsored a performance
of The Laramie Project at the Nutley Little Theater. We are pleased
and grateful to report that the performance was a sold-out success!
Written by Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic
Theater Project, The Laramie Project tells the story of the murder
in October of 1998 of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student, through
interviews with the people of Laramie, Wyoming, where it took place.
The OASIS would like to thank everybody who attended, and
especially Penny Paul and the talented cast and crew at the Nutley Little
Theater for sharing their time and talent with us.
